Make your moving super with Supermove

We have software everyone wants to use and actually adds value by solving real business problems.

If you're using Smartmoving, or considering buying it, there might be a better option you should see first. Meet Supermove, a popular Smartmoving alternative. Supermove is backed by Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z), one of the largest venture capital firms in the US. Moving company owners know Supermove for its comprehensive features and customization options, but most importantly, for being the fast growing innovator in the moving industry.

Read on to learn what sets Smartmoving and Supermove apart.

What makes Supermove an alternative to Smartmoving

A tool counts as an alternative if it does roughly 80% of what a competitor does, with some key differences that cater to different kinds of users. Supermove is an alternative to Smartmoving because both platforms have all the capabilities you’d expect from all-in-one moving software, like:

  • CRM capabilities
  • Lead capture forms (both built-in and external ones you can integrate with)
  • Dispatch and crew management
  • A crew app to use on the job
  • Digital paperwork and signatures
  • Reporting
  • Centralized storage management
  • Accounting and payments
  • Estimates and pricing

The main differences between Smartmoving and Supermove

1. Smartmoving covers the basics, while Supermove has more functionality

Both Smartmoving and Supermove are easy to use with sleek and modern interfaces—but they’re built differently. Smartmoving is an out-of-the-box solution, so it’s not very flexible. If you’re running a 2-truck moving company without any custom processes, and you're ready to upgrade from pen and paper, you can't go wrong with Smartmoving. You can set it up in just a few days. You'll get all the basic features that will immediately make your business more efficient.

Supermove UI (the dispatch calendar)

On the other hand, Supermove has way more features and capabilities—like automations, virtual surveys, GPS tracking, and more. Even the features both tools have are more advanced in Supermove. It's no surprise that many Smartmoving users switch over. It’s the next best step for movers who want to run their business in a particular way. If you've already built and digitized processes you’re proud of (like a faster estimating process), Supermove has all the features to help you become even better.

Take Supermove’s flexible billing engine as an example. Let’s say some of your local moves have you climbing to the 6th floor of downtown buildings. Supermove can automatically increase your hourly rate by $15 for those tougher moves, and automatically calculate inventory mileage, fuel surcharge, and any other extra fees you normally include. It’s all part of your preset pricing for tougher jobs like these. If you were on Smartmoving, you’d have to manually add extra charges like fuel surcharge every time, since Smartmoving’s preset tariffs aren’t as configurable.

2. Supermove has more (and more advanced) automations

Example 1: Automated follow-ups

Leads can slip through the cracks in Smartmoving because once they're assigned to someone, only that person can see them. You can’t automatically follow up with leads without MailChimp, nor can you automatically send text messages or automatically set tasks for your salespeople.

Supermove’s automations fill all those gaps. You can also use Supermove to build custom automations that support your sales and operations process. These custom automations have advanced stop logic. Here’s what that might look like.

For example, whenever you send a quote for local moves, wait 2 hours. If your customer accepts the quote within that time, don’t send any more messages. But if they haven’t accepted it, automatically send a text message asking if they have any questions. Check again 24 hours later. If they’ve accepted your quote, stop messaging them. If they haven’t, send an automated follow-up email reminding them about the quote. Wait another 24 hours, and if they still haven’t accepted your quote, then automatically set a task for your salesperson to call this customer.

Example 2: Automated upselling

Smartmoving doesn’t have automated upselling, Supermove does. For example, if there are only 3 days left until move day, your customer might feel stressed out trying to pack their whole life. You can send them an automated text asking if they also need help with packing.

This simple automation helps Supermove users see an average of 2-3 extra packing jobs a month. You can also add a step in the estimate signing process that asks customers to select and sign valuation coverage. Read more about it in the valuation upsell section.

3. Supermove's crew app is easier to learn and use

Smartmoving’s crew app works on smartphones and runs better on iOS since there's an app for it. There's no iOS app for Supermove. You have to use a browser on your iPad. That said, Supermove’s crew app is way easier to use—even for your least tech-savvy movers on their toughest workdays. It’s set up like a process movers typically follow on the move day (like getting paperwork signed). All movers have to do is keep pressing the big blue button.

Supermove’s crew app also has customizable checklists and the ability to take photos from the tablet. Smartmoving’s crew app can also take photos, but users complain that they don’t sync. Instead, the foreman has to grab the tablet, find the photo, and manually upload it into the system.

4. Smartmoving doesn’t have a Virtual Survey component, Supermove does

Supermove’s Virtual Survey component sends your customers a link where they can upload photos and videos of their space. It walks them through the whole process, so you still get decent footage even from customers who aren’t natural video makers. Here’s Supermove’s Virtual Survey in action.

5. Supermove innovates faster and more often

You’ll get new and improved features more often with Supermove because the two companies are set up completely differently.

Smartmoving has been around longer and has grown market share because of it. They recently got acquired by a private equity firm. On the other hand, Supermove is an independent company backed by Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z)—one of the biggest and most prestigious venture capital firms in the US. Andreessen Horowitz invested $18M in Supermove's Series A round and later invested more, bringing their total to $30M for Supermove's product innovation and market growth. This is also why Supermove’s team is bigger than Smartmoving's and keeps adding top engineers from companies like Facebook, Google, and Pinterest.

The capabilities only Supermove has

AI capabilities (The AI Sales Copilot)

Supermove’s AI Sales Copilot works on your live sales calls. It tells you exactly what to say, which questions to ask, and how to overcome your prospect’s every objection. Learn more here.

Note: Supermove’s AI Sales Copilot can integrate with Smartmoving.

Valuation upsell

Your customers will be presented with different valuation options whenever you send an estimate. Customers can upsell themselves by selecting and signing one. This also helps protect you from problem customers who might later come back and say they don’t remember it.

How it works

GPS tracking

Supermove’s GPS tracking shows you where your crew is, as well as when they arrived and when they left the customer’s home.

This feature has a side customers can use. It works like Uber and DoorDash. Your customer gets a “We’re on our way!” text when your crew leaves the warehouse. It comes with a link. Your customers can click that link to see exactly where your movers are. Smartmoving also sends customers a similar message—but unlike Supermove, it can’t show the truck’s live location.

There's more...

Many movers would say choosing between Smartmoving and Supermove comes down to what kind of a mover you are. Do you need a basic solution that “just works”, or do you need more features and capabilities? We agree with that.

Kudos to the Smartmoving team for building a product movers proudly vouch for. But if your business needs something more robust, Supermove is probably a better choice.

We invite you to book a demo so you can dig deeper. Ask our team about sales impact, revenue growth, and cost savings you should expect. That's how we help movers decide which solution to go with.

P.S. Supermove now offers easy data migration support specifically for Smartmoving users. There's never been a better time to switch over.
